Having been involved in the very early days of independent OSS and BSS companies—in the very distant past (nostalgia sounding background music) it is rather interesting to see the demands placed upon current OSS/BSS providers by their customers.

Market needs are changing due to deceasing ARPUs and increasing cost of network building. Operators demand immense flexibility, open, interoperable solutions, integration of technical and business process management viz, billing, CRM, service activation, provisioning and fault management.

The saving grace for many of these providers is that aggregation in the OSS/BSS universe has driven the worldwide number down to the quoted 400 companies.
